Guidelines for selection of Krithis in the competition

Participants are requested to go through the following guidelines when selecting Krithis for the categories in which they are participating. 

  • The competition focuses on Kriti rendition only and no Alapana/Neraval/Svaram singing is required.

  • The competition is open to all students of music between 8 and 25 (age completed as of 1st August 2023).

  • The competition is divided into 3 categories: Sub-Junior (8-10), Junior (11-14), and Senior (15-25).

  • For Sub-junior, 3 Dikshitar Kritis are expected, for Junior 5 Dikshitar Kritis while for Senior 10 Dikshitar Kritis are expected.

  • Any Dikshitar Kriti is allowed EXCEPT FOR "Nottu Svarams".

  • Participants selected for the finals may be asked to learn new Kritis (for Junior and Senior categories) – the exact Kritis would be announced when the finalists are announced

  • The focus is on a clean and clear rendition of the Kriti with NO Manodharmam aspects such as Ragam/Neraval/Svarams.

  • It is recommended that the contestants know the meaning of the Kritis that they have chosen to a reasonable extent

  • The judge(s) would ask the contestants to sing a portion of one or more of the Kritis they have come prepared with.

  • Please ensure that Shruti Volume is set to a reasonable level before singing.

  • The list of Kritis is NOT required at the time of registration but only at the time of the competition. Please select Dikshitar Kritis that your Gurus feel, are authentic.

  • It is NOT mandatory for you to pick only compositions listed above – however, it serves as one confirmed source of Dikshitar Kritis, for your reference.

  • Guruguhaamrta, would NOT be able to provide any individual feedback about participants, after the competitions.

  • We understand that there may be students who may need help building a repertoire of Dikshitar Kritis - Guruguhaamrta would be happy to conduct (paid) teaching sessions through our network of teachers. Please email us for further details.
